Visitor visa solicitors

The UK visitor visa allows non-UK nationals to come for short stays such as tourism, business trips, medical treatment, or short courses. Our solicitors advise on eligibility, documents, and applications, helping visitors prepare strong cases.

This visa is for individuals travelling to the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, family visits, business meetings, medical treatment, or short-term study purposes. Longer visits may be possible in limited circumstances, such as for academic visitors.

Following Home Office reforms under HC 1333 (October 2025), updated suitability checks and stricter evidence requirements now apply to visitor visa applications from 2026.

Exploring the UK on a visitor visa

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must usually show:

  • A genuine intention to leave the UK at the end of the visit.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to cover travel, accommodation, and expenses under the revised maintenance standards.
  • No intention to work or access public funds.
  • Purpose of visit falls within the permitted activities.
  • Good immigration history and compliance with the Home Office’s new suitability criteria.

Application process

  • Step 1 – Confirm purpose of visit and eligibility.

  • Step 2 – Complete the online application and pay the visa fee.

  • Step 3 – Upload supporting documents, such as bank statements, accommodation details, and itinerary.

  • Step 4 – Attend a biometric appointment and await a Home Office decision, usually within 3 weeks.

Common issues

Visitor visas are often refused where applicants cannot show strong ties to their home country, sufficient funds, or a genuine reason for visiting.

Under the 2025 reforms, the Home Office may apply enhanced scrutiny to repeat or extended visit patterns, especially for applicants with previous refusals or overstays.
