Eligibility requirements

To qualify for a charity worker visa you must:

• Have a job offer to do voluntary work in the UK for a licensed charity sponsor.
• Be assigned a valid certificate of sponsorship (CoS) for the role.
• Be at least 18 years old on the date of application.
• Be coming to the UK to do work directly related to the charity’s purpose.
• Have enough personal savings to support yourself during your stay (unless exempt).
• Ensure the sponsoring charity meets the new suitability and compliance standards under HC 1333.

Application process

• Step 1 – Sponsorship: Your UK charity assigns you a valid CoS.
   
• Step 2 – Visa application: Apply online, pay the visa fee and provide supporting documents, including proof of savings if required.
   
• Step 3 – Decision: Applications from outside the UK are usually processed within three weeks.

Length of stay

The charity worker visa is valid for up to 12 months or the time stated on your CoS plus 14 days, whichever is shorter.

Restrictions

You cannot:

• Take paid employment in the UK.
• Work in a role not listed on your CoS.
• Receive public funds.

Dependants

You may bring your partner and children under 18 as dependants if you meet the financial requirements. They will be able to work and study in the UK.
